Palletline, the UK’s leading palletised freight distribution network, is once again opening its doors to the logistics leaders of tomorrow, welcoming students and staff from Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG), University of Warwick to its hub for an inside look at its operations.
Around 90 full-time MSc students on the prestigious 12-month Supply Chain & Logistics Management (SCLM) and International Trade Strategy & Operations (ITSO) programmes from WMG will gain first-hand insight into the life cycle of a pallet and see Palletline’s operations in action. The highly ranked MSc SCLM and ITSO courses combined attracts over 300 students annually, including a growing international cohort.
A highlight of this year’s visit will be a live demonstration of Palleteyes, Palletline’s next-generation forklift-mounted CCTV and barcode scanning system.
This revolutionary £2 million investment delivers industry-leading visibility and traceability, combining wide-aspect barcode scanning with high-definition video footage of every pallet’s journey through the hub, significantly enhancing quality control, safety and sortation efficiency.
Nishal Samarasekera, Course Leader of the MSc SCLM course at WMG, said the annual visit — now in its fifth year — has become a key part of the course. “We partner with companies like Palletline to give our students practical experience. Observing real-world operations, especially advanced innovations like Palleteyes, brings their learning to life,” he explained.
The visit takes place during peak hub activity, allowing students to observe operations in full flow, engage with Palletline leaders and deepen their understanding of modern logistics challenges.
Anne-Marie Mulder-McLeod, WMG’s Careers and Employability Coordinator, organises various industrial visits for WMG students. “Experiential learning through industrial visits to companies like Palletline play an important role in enhancing learning outcomes as well as boosting career confidence for students at WMG,” she added.
Students will meet key Palletline personnel including Harpreet Sohal, Director of Business Information; Richard Southern, Director of Hub Operations; and Lee Morton, Hub Manager. Guided tours will showcase every stage of the pallet journey within the hub.
